Two years after Martyr ظلم, Caïn و Muchi are back with a 5-tracker EP. Warda وردة, develops the dramatic storyline in their collaboration, a direct result of vocal experiments and cross-genre instrumentals.

Vanda explore the struggle of self-determination through their writing style, breaking negative cyclical patterns and facing inner chaos. This complex emotional speech mirrors a dialogue about our current societies through a humanist perspective, which as with Madhi.

« I wrote Madhi based on Cherish Menzo’s last performance, Dark Matter (2022), which is inspired by the work of Drexciya. It takes place in a new world where all past beliefs have been rejected. First wandering and having second thoughts, then realizing that new values can be set in this arena, the character is trapped in a coil of doubts, a maze, always asking - since we struggle to trust ourselves - what’s good and what’s bad? Which road is there to take? »

The EP weaves through contemporary hip-hop, bass, experimental and ambient-shifting textures, inventive sound design and percussive rhythms. Space is created and propelled by the vocal work, and intensity lingers through to climax. From classical rap exercises performed in Warda or Hustler to more grandiose cinematic orchestration in Hawa and Madhi, Warda وردة draws listeners even deeper into Caïn و Muchi’s sonic universe.
Having evolved from previous releases with the club in mind, this is an outspoken, visceral and reclaimed piece of work.

Cairo (and Egypt) scene is so rich, full, variegated, innovative, experimental, harsh, tough, forward thinking, no-frills and overall very difficult to describe. Thanks to Rama and Zuli for trying to put together this sensation in this awesome comp. It's a dirty job but someone had to do it :) crft
